Deer Park Fishery Open Day

To celebrate the new season on the water, the Deer Park fishery on the river Otter is holding a FREE bankside open day which is open to all, whether you are a fly fisher or someone who is looking to get into the sport.

Join us on the hotels 3 miles of the river Otter to see what the fishery has to offer, walk the bank or bring your kit and have a complimentary fish.

Our fishing school instructor Neil Keep will be on hand to talk all things fly fishing and show you around. Get a free casting tune up with Neil who will be happy to pass on any tips and techniques for fishing the river. There will also be some on the water demonstrations in modern nymph fishing techniques and river fly casting.Deer Park Open Day

Along with all this there will be the latest range of Marryat river rods for you to try out and maybe even some bankside fly tying if the elements permit.

A short walk from the river bank will see you at the splendid Deer Park Hotel which will be open for lunch and refreshments throughout the day and if the weather permits there will be an afternoon barbeque on the bank.

On arrival please park in the hotel car park and walk down to the river where you will find us set up on the river bank, if you are unsure please pop into the hotel reception and they will point you in the right direction.

1 Day Beginners Stillwater Fly Fishing Course – 20th May 2018 9.30am to 4.30pm

Manningford Trout Fishery, Manningford Bohune, Pewsey, Wiltshire. SN9 6JR

If you’ve ever fancied trying your hand at the wonderful art fly fishing but didn’t know where to start, or if you are new to fly fishing and want to learn more about the basics then this day is for you.

A 1 day beginner’s lake fly fishing course set at the wonderful Manningford Trout Fishery in Wiltshire, with beautiful surroundings and lakes stocked with hard fighting fish, there are first class on site facilities, so this is the perfect venue to start your fly fishing adventure!

The course is designed to give you all the basics to set you on your fly fishing way, from the tackle, setting it up, casting and basic fly fishing techniques.

This will be a small group event to ensure you get the most out of the experience.

Neil Keep will be guiding you through the day and passing on his 40 year plus experience to you to make sure that you get a sound understanding of this sometimes bewildering pastime. The morning session will be spent on the bank learning about tackle, casting, some basic entomology (study of insects) and then after lunch we will set you free on to the water to put your new found knowledge into action!Fly fishing tuition across Somerset

All equipment will be supplied for the course, all you need to bring are a hat and glasses (Polaroid’s if you have them), a valid Environment Agency rod license and any food you may want for the day, although there are tea/ coffee making facilities on site.

Cost for the event, all equipment for the day and a 2 fish permit will be just £90.00 per person.

Sedge Skaters 2 Day Fly Fishing Course – 1st & 2nd July 2018

This course with a differnece is designed for fly fishers who would like to try their hand at river fly fishing for the first time or for those who fish rivers but would like to hone their technique and learn some new skills to help increase their success on rivers.

Arrive on day 1 for a 3.00pm check in at the hotel, after check in we will head down to the river for a briefing on events, tactics and tackle talk and demonstrations will follow before you tuck into a first class riverside barbeque. After the barbeque we will head onto the water as evening approaches and the big fish come out to play and you target these big fish with one of the most exciting fly fishing techniques… skating a sedge at dusk!

The course is designed for fly fishers who would like to improve their existing skill set and learn new techniques for river fishing to become more successful.

Over the 2 days the Deer Park resident instructor Neil Keep will cover a variety of methods with both dry fly and nymph through to fishing streamers for the feisty end of season fish. Traditional and modern techniques (French leader etc.) will be covered along with presentation casts used on rivers. Rivercraft will be a key element of the course, helping you to identify the fish holding areas of a river and how to approach them. A spot of evening fly tying will be thrown in for good measure.
